VelaSmooth For Cellulite ReductionVelaSmooth explainedVelasmooth is a medical device manufactured by Syneron Medical Ltd. of Yokneam, Israel, that reduces cellulite temporarily. It sometimes reduces the circumference of the thigh or arm after treatment -- likely due to water loss, because you don't actually lose any weight. The device uses infrared light to heat the target area (which temporarily increases the elasticity of the skin, and is supposed to promote better circulation to the area). Then Ultrasound waves are also pulsed beneath the skin to heat the fat cells beneath. Finally, a vacuum massage is applied. So basically you are getting Ultrashape and Endermologie lipomassage in one. Velasmooth treatments are supposed to be most effective when applied to cellulite in the abdomen, buttocks, thighs or arms. The Velasmooth RegimenThe treatment itself consists of 16 separate sessions scheduled over an eight week period, two per week, with each session usually lasting about one hour. A minimum of ten to twelve sessions are required before any results at all become apparent. Before the treatments, a lubricating substance is applied to the target area. Then the device is set directly upon the skin: As the flesh heats, the vacuum massage pushes the fat cells into the adipose layer, temporarily sinking the fat cells and reducing the dimpled appearance. Many patients describe the sensation as like a heat massage while others feel uncomfortable with the deep penetrating heat. Side-EffectsMany patients can expect to walk out after the treatment and continue their day as though nothing has transpired. Some patients may experience a temporary increase in urine after the treatment, resulting from water flushed out of the treated region - which causes the temporary 'inch-loss' effect, also known as the 'weight-loss illusion'. Occasionally patients may experience bruising, reddening or swelling. Like in ordinary cellulite massage, this will eventually heal. Still, it might be wise not to get a VelaSmooth treatment done the day you plan on hitting the beach. Effectiveness and the cost of VelaSmoothThe FDA has actually approved VelaSmooth as a machine to provide "temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite." So at least it is approved, and honestly so. As the results are temporary, eventually the fat cells will surface once more. That said, there's nothing to stop you from going to the VelaSmooth center ad infinitum (well except $$ of course). In fact, the clinics will push to have you sign up for monthly maintenance sessions, sometimes up to six months in advance. An 8-10 session package will run you $1200-$1500. Most clinics won't sell you individual sessions (since you won't see results after just one session). If you want to try this treatment, your best bet is to search Google to find a VelaSmooth specialist near you. Use your city or state as part of the search, for example 'los angeles velasmooth' or 'chicago velasmooth' |
