LipoDissolve - Heavenly Body Or Harbinger of Doom?LipoDissolve ExplainedLipoDissolve (also know as Lipostabil, LipoShape or injection lipolysis), is a controversial procedure involving the injection of various non-FDA approved chemical admixes into patients to dissolve fat. It is basically mesotherapy with a different set of chemicals aimed at a different type of fat (the deeper fat, rather than the subcutaneous fat that harbors cellulite). In that respect, it can be thought of as the mesotherapy of liposuction. Like liposuction, its goal is to erase excess fat from around the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, the hardest areas to work away fat via exercise. It does the job well (perhaps too well, see below), however like liposuction, if diet and lifestyle are not maintained you'll just rebound and have to book another session with the needle-wielder. HistoryThe original foundations of LipoDissolve were discovered back in the '60s, when scientists noted that the infusion of certain chemical solutions caused the dissolution of fat cells. Experiments began, and soon an injection for infra-orbital fat ("fat under the eyelid") was developed. Fat removal by Lipostabil injection was born. The ProcedureThe chemicals are injected into the designated area by means of multiple microinjections. The dosage has to be carefully monitored and administered over many treatment sessions. As in mesotherapy, you will experience bruising and swelling, and possibly an infection (or even an allergic reaction). These latter will have to be treated by your doctor. As in mesotherapy, because different chemicals are used by different doctors, it is difficult to determine the long-term effects and side-effects of any LipoDissolve procedure. No studies exist that demonstrate exactly where the medication may travel or lodge in the body, how it may affect other organs, what the proper dosage of each ingredient should be, etc, etc. That means: be very very careful. Costs of injection lipolysisExpect to pay from $400 - $1600 per treatment, keeping in mind that upwards of six treatments might be required before a satisfactory result is obtained.Effectiveness of LipoDissolve Against CelluliteSince LipoDissolve isn't really designed to fight the same type of fat that contains Cellute, its effectiveness in reducing cellulite can be hard to measure. Some lipoDissolve therapists might have admixes that closely resemble the chemicals used in mesotherapy, and hence their procedures might be better suited to cellulite. But for the most part, LipoDissolve is just like liposuction for cellulite - sometimes it may worsen the "orange-peel" look. As such, when you go in to get LipoDissolve done for deep fat, the technicians may try to upsell you on a post-procedure Endermologie massage to smooth out the skin. |
